Is there something in your life that you want to change? I wanted to change my belief in myself. There were many days that I thought to myself “I would love to do ______ but I will never be able to do that.” Have you had those thoughts before. Do you live your life in “what might have been” mode?
In order to make a change you need to hunger for that change. You must have a motivation to change.
How to build a hunger to change:
There are 7 ways to build a hunger for change.
- You have to take responsibility for your life. You must commit to no excuses.
- Review your reasons why you want to change at least twice a day.
- Each day chose to live your life with urgency.
- Develop courage by committing to doing something that scares you.
- Devote yourself to bigger change.
- Vocalize your belief in yourself until you feel it.
- Read inspirational material.
How can I put these into practice:
First, don’t just look to outward motivation. When your focus is on someone or something else to motivate you then you forget the enemy that is waiting to shoot you down. Your own self-doubt will sabotage your efforts every time. You are your own worst enemy.
I had just started a network marketing business. This business was set up for me to succeed. Products that worked, testimony and stories of how they worked, scientific studies to back up claims. How could I fail? This company even had a compensation plan that allowed me to rank up faster than my sponsor. I had training, support, and all the help I needed to keep my motivation high. It was completely dependent on me if I succeeded or failed.
What happened? The same thing that happened over and over. I let doubt and poor self-confidence creep into my thoughts. Thoughts of failure started playing in my head. “Its been a month, I haven’t signed anyone. They aren’t even responding to my messages. What am I doing wrong? No one listens to me because they don’t think I know what I’m talking about.” Are you hearing those thoughts now? You’re not good enough, you can’t do it, and what are you doing wrong?
Those thoughts were an unending loop. They led me deeper and deeper into a state of fear. The doubts froze me in my tracks and stopped any forward momentum in my business. Are any of you in that dark place? Has fear frozen you?
I turned it around and now people contact me asking to join my team.
I learned how to keep my motivation high and keep my momentum going. How did I do that?
The root issue:
After you realize you can’t just look outward for motivation where do you go from there? You have to address the root issue. What is that? It’s the talk you give to yourself. It’s the thoughts you allow in your mind. You must change your mindset.
A coach is talking to his team in the locker room before the game. He says to the team, “Alright guys, I know that team we’re facing is huge. I know they might tear us apart. I want you to go out there and remember that it is not failing if you are unequally matched. We will do the best we can but don’t beat yourselves up if we don’t win. Now go out there and play ball.” What happens? They most likely lose.
But what if he says, “Alright guys, we are mighty! They are big but we are faster. We will run rings around them and we will win! This is what we’ve trained for. We’re ready and we are CHAMPIONS! So let’s go show them who’s the best!” What happens then?
Your brain is a computer:
This notion of our brain being a computer has now been determined to be inaccurate. So where am I going with this? Our brain may not be like a computer but you might be more right to say that it is like a software program. It directs our actions based on its programming. What is its programming? The thoughts in our mind is the programming. If we have negative thoughts our actions are negative. Positive thoughts will have positive actions. To change your outcome you have to change what goes in.
By this graphic you can see how important it is to coach yourself. Don’t depend on others for motivation and coaching. Take control of your life by knowing your why and creating a hunger for change. Then program your mind with positive affirmations. This is how you succeed in changing.
